My startup is coming out of beta/pilot and looking to maximize our social media presence. I was considering using Hootsuite to manage our posts across Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc. but wasn't sure if there isn't anything better that I may be missing. What are the best and most tested tools for doing this as I want to limit the amount of time spent posting and managing our social media presence?
First off, you shouldn’t post simultaneously across all platforms - your Twitter Audience may not be the same as LinkedIn or Facebook.
I use Buffer. Only because a few people in the social media world I admire use it, and it’s relatively cheap and user friendly.
There’s Hootsuite, Sprout Social and others, all I’m sure are great and have different strengths and weaknesses, but I’d rather just pick one and move on. You can always change later.
Going back to posting the same content simultaneously across all platforms: Don’t.
I use Buffer to post to G+, Twitter, and sometimes on LinkedIn, but Facebook only likes native posts for pages. Exceptions apply of you're admin on a group and posting to it. One of my digital hero’s (Vincent Dignan) posts to groups via Buffer - and if it’s good for him, then it’s good for me.
Overall, it will be worth the extra effort to schedule directly on Facebook to ensure maximum reach. As a startup, you should get the most out of every effort.
I’ve heard that Twitter doesn’t really care, so 3rd party management platforms are cool.
For Google+, I have no idea what I’m doing, so I’d rather automate through Buffer and pray for a little SEO.
I use Buffer for LinkedIn too - but not enough.
